  1. Read Basic Training - FAQ
  2. Take the online Library Tutorial
  3. Meet with Library staff for a short orientation of what each department/staff member does in the library
  4. Familiarize yourself with the Library's website
    1. Search the databases
      1. know the difference between full-text and an abstract
      2. set up a search alert and an RSS feed (using an EBSCO)
      3. email an article to yourself (using an EBSCO)
    2. Find a book in the library using the online catalog
    3. Checkout the Magazine/Journal Locator - does the library have your favorite?
    4. Order a video or book from Summit
    5. View your library record via webopac
    6. Look up a course reserve -
    • Beth Naylor's FN 230
    • Print out and save to disk one of the electronic reserves she has available
  5. Look yourself up in the library system - by L number and name.  Are you in the system?
  6. Review patron types
    1. who can check out materials - different patron types have different rules
    2. use Millennium to check your patron type
  7. Familiarize yourself with the library map and surroundings
