Circulating laptops outside the library: issues and questions
Page history last edited by linda 1 yr ago
- Currently laptop checkout is 9:30 - 2:30. Can we count on students to return laptops on time. Will they use the drop box? Who will wait past 2:30 (or whenever) for the last one to return?
- What about mistreatment once the laptops are beyond our care?
- What about help desk support?
- Are charges and fines commensurate; and how will we deal with the inevitable lost/damaged/stolen laptop? Should we expose students to potentially horrendous charges?
- What do we really envisage that the function of the laptops should be? Are they an extension of the library’s function or a campus-wide service?
- Should we establish a student agreement/contract (within Millennium) for each user to sign?
- Have we had enough experience checking out laptops to make a recommendation yet?
- Do we have enough staffing?
- Should all laptops be able to go out of the library or only some of them?
